Macsteel VRN is one of eleven business units within the Macsteel Group in Southern Africa and is proud to be a BEE verified company.

Macsteel VRN is in the business of managing the application specific performance steel supply chain.  The pre-dominant emphasis is on application specific high strength carbon plate, stainless steel, aluminium, as well as value added processing for these products classes as well as for commodity plate.

Customer/Market needs are fulfilled through:  

• Logistics Management:  Utilizing information technology as a platform, Macsteel VRN acts as a link between end users and steel producers by meeting customers’ demand for: small tonnage requirements (break bulk), specified short notice deliveries, warehousing of inventories and providing a safety stock buffer, managing mill orders and expediting mill orders.  

• Value Added Processes:  Utilizing pre-production processing equipment such as:  oxy fuel/plasma/laser profilers, press brakes, rollers, machine centres for drilling and chamfering, cut-to-length lines, slitting lines and guillotines – Macsteel VRN can provide customers with pre-production input components.  

• Financial Risk Sharing:  Macsteel VRN can take care of the “cost of possession” component of inventory thereby reducing customer’s financial risk – credit finance, inventory holding costs, hedge against obsolence – these funds can in turn be released by the customer into productive assets.  

Macsteel VRN is, therefore, ideally positioned to provide speedy, reliable service and support to the mining, earthmoving, sugar, power generation, construction and fabrication industries through highly experienced staff with intimate knowledge of these sectors.

Value Added Facilities offered by the Macsteel VRN Group

•  Full CAD facilities in modern drawing offices are available to assist customers with any drawings, and to nest items to be cut cost efficiently.

• Laser, flame and plasma cutting by CNC controlled machines capable of processing any grade of material

• Dedicated high definition plasma for stainless steel

• Dedicated 6kW lasers for stainless steel.

• Precision 6m shears for cutting up to 12mm stainless steel. 

•  Plate edge preparation equipment to cater for any thickness of plate 

• Guillotines, rolls, press brakes, (which includes a 12m, 1000t press), drills, band saws and machining centres.

• Decoiling, blanking and slitting lines (Carbon & stainless steels).

• A steel processing capacity in excess of 10 000 tons per month.

• The Reef carbon steel factory of 50 000m² and the Reef Stainless factory of 15 000m² have all the facilities to add value to sheet and plate.

All deliveries to customers are taken care of by the Macsteel VRN fleet of vehicles.
